Faulk expects NFL to keep Spygate case under wraps

Did the New England Patriots secretly tape the Rams' final practice before Super Bowl 36? That story has been making the rounds, of course.

In video comments delivered exclusively to Sprint mobile phone subscribers, retired Rams running back Marshall Faulk said he doubts that anything will surface from an investigation — if, in fact, the NFL opts to investigate. Faulk strongly implies that the NFL doesn't want to know the truth, even if former Patriots video man Matt Walsh comes forward with credible information.

"My question is, why does it matter? It won't be investigated, and nothing will happen," Faulk said. "The Patriots will get to keep the Lombardi Trophy, and their rings. I mean, think about it. Think about the shield we're talking about. That shield being the grand scheme of things.

Thin(ner) by summer

If you want to lose weight and shape up before summer, there's still time, nutrition experts say.

By Easter, which is March 23, you could drop 5 pounds or more and lose some of your belly fat, which means your pants and jeans would fit better.

By Memorial Day (May 26), you could lose 10 to 12 pounds and probably wear a bathing suit a size smaller than one you'd fit into now. And by the first day of summer, June 21, you could drop 15 pounds or more and wear shorts that are one to two sizes smaller than what you wear now.

To accomplish these goals, you'll need to cut calories by 400 to 500 a day, burn several hundred extra calories a day through an aerobic activity such as walking and start strength training to tone muscle. So says Karen Miller-Kovach, chief scientific officer for Weight Watchers.

UPDATE 1-Motorola eyes mobile chief with consumer know-how

Facing a plummeting share and pressure from activist investor Carl Icahn, Motorola said at the end of January it was looking at options such as a potential separation of mobile devices to help create value for shareholders.

Brown said he was taking nothing for granted when asked about how Motorola will cope with moves by rivals such as global leader Nokia to make inroads into the North American market where Motorola is the leader.

"I expect (competition) to be particularly rugged for the remainder of 2008 and into 2009," he said during the Webcast. Continued...

First Half Fantasy Recap & Second Half Preview

Paul's lethal combination of points, assists, and steals, in addition to terrific FG and FT%'s, make him the league's most valuable fantasy performer.

Honorable Mention - LeBron James: I'll pull a stat from the recent HOOPSWORLD Magazine (be on the lookout for it this week): Only two players in NBA history have averaged at least 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists for an entire season – Oscar Robertson (multiple times) and some guy named Michael Jordan ('88-'89). Not bad company to keep.

(Garrett) - Chris Paul: The race between CP3 and King James is pretty tight, but Paul gets the edge because he is a point guard which is a much more difficult fantasy position to fill.

Honorable Mention - LeBron James: There isn't anything James doesn't do well, but Paul is dominant in more categories.

Four hurt in French Valley plane crash

My mechanic friend noticed and then made a major communication effort to try to contact as many pilots and owners as possible to urge them to change to synthetic oil which didn't break down like regular oil at the higher heat ranges that occurred due to the slower air speed conditions and the crashes pretty much quit happening altogether. Incidentally, I've seen statistics that say horses are the No. 1 most dangerous mode of transportation and air travel is the safest when factoring in miles traveled. Highway travel was the next most dangerous after horses. It's a fact, however, that sooner or later we don't get out of this life alive, so I'd rather get out and go than sit around and wait. Have a nice day!

Automated 'Ballet mécanique' beats the live show

In a fine example of cultural cooperation the Wolfsonian museum and the New World Symphony coordinated separate takes on Antheil's over-the-top Ballet mecanique. On Friday night the New World Symphony Percussion Consort presented a live performance of the 1953 version, and Saturday the Wolfsonian unveiled an automated ''robotic'' performance, which can be heard daily at 1 and 4 p.m. through Dec. 11.

Inspired by the contemporary Dada and Futurist art movements, Ballet mecanique remains one of the most audacious of all compositions. Written in 1924 as an intended soundtrack to Fernand Leger's surrealist short film of the same name, Antheil's work was scored for a thunderous percussion ensemble including 16 player pianos, bass drums, xylophones, bells, sirens and three airplane propellers.

Convention center hotels were a great idea for Denver and Houston, but ...

Louis raised nearly $200 million to build a new headquarters hotel for the city's convention center.

''St. Louis has accomplished something that has eluded most other cities for years,'' tourism director Bob Bedell said after final approval of the plan. The 1,100-room hotel ``will put our hospitality industry into the first tier of convention cities.''

Eight years later, the Gateway City is still waiting for that status upgrade. Meanwhile, the headquarters hotel is flirting with bankruptcy and not expected to cover the debt payments until 2012.

''The picture wasn't as rosy as everybody thought,'' said Gary Andreas, a partner at H&H Consulting, which tracks the St. Louis hotel industry. ``Just about everything that could go wrong, did.''
