Madeleine McCann: What Shannon Matthews Is Worth, Asda And PR

Contrast the media-savvy McCann campaign with the brave efforts of Petra Jamieson, 30, a friend of Shannon's mother, who managed to persuade her local branch of Asda to donate 24 white T-shirts on which the girl's photograph had been printed.

What happened to Shannon Matthews? Who can we blame? The parents?

A deprived background, a dysfunctional family and a down-on-its-luck Yorkshire mill town: none of this is Shannon Matthews's fault, yet it seems that she is paying the price.

No holiday scene. No excuse for hacks to go to hotter climes. Yorkshire in winter. Grey. Grim.

GLASGOW DAILY RECORD: “Mother's Day Wish"

THE distraught mum of missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews last night cried: "All I want for Mother's Day is my princess back."

DAILY MIRROR: “ALL I WANT FOR MOTHER'S DAY IS MY PRINCESS BACK"

Shannon Matthews' desperate mother last night movingly declared: "All I want for Mother's Day is my princess back."As police continued searching thousands of homes for the missing nine-year-old schoolgirl, mum Karen, 32, said: "It is a special family day and we would all spend it together.

Dawgs here, brought football weather

I know this is not a travel blog but I trust your opinion (especially on this subject) so I have one more question, we'll be looking for a good place to watch the Duke/UNC game next Saturday night. Thinking about ESPN Club b/c of proximity to stadium. We'll be going straight there after the split squad game at Champions for food etc…BBall game not until 9 so heavy on the "etc."

Where's a good place for some married 30 year olds to hang and watch the game after a day at the ball park?

.

3 children left alone

Instead, 29-year-old Kristina Hope Wright stayed out drinking with a male friend, then spent the night at his home, said Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts.

After several 911 hang-up calls from Wright's home starting at 7:32 a.m. Saturday, deputies arrived to find the children alone, Metts said.

The 9-year-old had fed his 2-year-old sister and 5-year-old brother a breakfast of cold sausage and bread, said Maj. John Allard, Sheriff's Department spokesman.

The 2-year-old was "distressed" at having worn the same dirty diaper overnight. But "they weren't hysterical or crying. Under the circumstances, they were pretty composed," Allard said.

Deputies were waiting when Wright arrived smelling of alcohol at 8:32 a.m.

"She didn't seem surprised there were deputies at her house.

UPDATE: GM Names New President/COO, CFO

Chief Financial Officer Frederick "Fritz" A. Henderson was named president and chief operating officer at General Motors Corp. (GM) as the company revived a tradition of one person holding both positions.

Ray Young, 46, currently group vice president-finance, will replace Henderson, 49, as CFO.

Neither was available for comment.

GM Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said the No. 1 U.S. auto maker is re- establishing its tradition of having a president/COO with Henderson's appointment.

"Fritz Henderson is the right person to assume this role. He's had a broad range of experiences in leading three of our regions and in a number of other GM businesses over the years, and he's made a tremendous contribution in each role, " Wagoner said.

About Young, he said, "Ray Young brings a wealth of finance and operating experience to the CFO role, including leading GM do Brasil to record business results in his most recent assignment."

Henderson and Young will report to Wagoner.

Pakistan takes baby steps to filmdom

Pakistani cinema is entering the international age with moves to normalize the country's own movie industry and the reversing of a 43-year embargo against Indian films.

Caretaker minister for industries, Salman Taseer on Saturday announced that the entertainment sector has been granted 'industry status' following a decision by the Cabinet.

Spanning studios, production companies and animation, the status is intended to allow the sector to build infrastructure, conduct research and engage in training schemes.

"Duty-free import of equipment related to this industry will also be allowed," he said.

Industry status may also allow normal financial interaction with other parts of the economy. Neighboring India's granting of industry status eight years ago foreshadowed bank lending and outside financial investments in the sector and a modernization boom.
